Day Thirty-One: Rest Day At Base Camp; More Issues with Food

Today, we had yet another relatively uneventful rest day at base camp. We ate, prepared our loads for the carry to Camp II and sharpened our crampons for the icy route to Camp I. The loads were very light in comparison to my previous carries to Camp I and I predicted that my performance would reflect the lack of weight in my pack. Before dinner, we had yet another issue with the cooks and ATP. They had apparently bought an animal from Concordia and were trying to charge the members of Carlos Soria’s group. After confirming that we had all paid ATP in advance for our food, fuel, accommodations, etc. and that nothing but gratuity was to be paid in base camp, I quickly brought the issue to a close. After this, we had dinner, finalized the contents of our loads, and went to bed.
