Dispatch Thirty-Nine: July 18th, 2007

Day Thirty-Nine: Day One of Summit Bid; Climb to Camp II

Today, we woke up at 3:00am and gathered our things and had a quick breakfast. We left base camp for Camp I at 4:30am in the cool morning hours. We arrived at ABC (Camp 0.5) an hour later and continued up the final slope to Camp I. Once there, we took a long break and then got on our way to Camp II. The day became extremely hot, with temperatures reaching 36 degrees Celsius. We finally arrived at Camp II at noon. We sorted our things for higher up, fixed our morphed icy tent platform, and melted snow for water all day. We went to bed around 6:00pm in preparation for the heavy carry to Camp III the next day.
