Dispatch Thirty-four: July 3rd, 2008

Day Thirty-four: Rest Day in Camp II (6,300 meters) (K2; Cesan Route)

Today, after waiting till quite late in the morning for Pemba and the remainder of “team two's” departure from Camp II to Camp III, I finally was able to stretch out and get a good hour of sleep. They left around 9:30am, quite late in the day for the seven hour climb to Camp III. Since they left so late, and Hugues didn’t want to break the trail to Camp III, Qudrat, Karim and Hugues decided to remain in Camp II as well. After the whole team had left, I went over to Hugues’ tent to pass the day chatting about everything, snacking and drinking constantly. We all felt great at Camp II (6,300 meters) and were looking forward to leaving tomorrow around 7:00am when the snow would be consolidated, and before the heat of the day really starts to become a problem. We dried our socks, gloves, etc, in the heat of the day, and after the sun began to set, took some photos and went to sleep.
