Dispatch Twenty-six: April 18th, 2009 |
Day Twenty-six: Weather Changes; Party in Base Camp Today, after a quick breakfast, I headed down to the Spanish Camp for a party they had planned. I chatted with Lina as she prepared a Spanish omelets and Tamara was busy preparing Lomo, Chorizo and other typical Spanish meats and after all was laid out, Anna and I headed over to Carlos Pauner’s base camp to invite them to the party. We all socialized for a few hours ( I did my best to understand the rapid Spanish conversations firing back and forth). As the afternoon progressed, we got news in very broken English that there had been an avalanche close to Camp I in which four climbers were involved. All were ok. After thanking the Andalucian expedition for their hospitality, I headed back to my base camp to put together my backpack for tomorrow. I’m bringing everything I’ll need to summit in case the forecast good weather remains long enough for an attempt. |
