Day Ten: Trek from Chinese Base Camp to Advanced Base Camp Today, we woke up early, had breakfast, and helped Gopal break down the kitchen tent and get the final loads prepared for the Yaks. Mario and I were a bit worried as we only saw 15 of the 21 yaks that we had been promised. We waited around for the better part of the morning, socializing with Carlos Pauner’s group who’d arrived the day before. We finally decided that we would just go and trust that the Yaks would arrive as our Liaison officer had promised. We arrived in Advanced Base Camp around 6pm, and all the yaks had managed to catch up, so all appeared to be in order. We set up the kitchen tent and our personal tents, and had a quick dinner. We all felt the altitude gain (we are now at 5,400 meters) and decided to get a good night’s sleep (the night before one of the Yak herding dogs barked non-stop right outside our camp, so none of us had gotten more than an hour of sleep). |
