Day Two: Mario Panzeri and Paula arrive to Kathmandu Today, after waking up at 4am thanks to jetlag, I had breakfast downstairs in the Manang then went out into Thamel to pick up some last minute items. Around 2pm, Mario and his wife, Paula arrived to Kathmandu from Milan. We went and had lunch and caught up. We spoke about the possibility of climbing the south face instead of the north face of Shishapangma. In the end we decided that we would stick with our original plan and climb via the north face utilizing either the Inaki or Polish variation of the normal route for our summit bid. These routes allow more direct access to the main summit rather than forcing the climber to traverse the ridge between the central and main summits which can be corniced and very dangerous. We had dinner at Fire and Ice and turned in early. |
