2009 Shishapangma Expedition |
Day Twenty-two: Free Day in Advanced Base Camp; High Winds Today, after preparing breakfast, Mario and I did our best to kill the day. We reorganized our tents, visited Junaito’s camp, where he was preparing his Sherpa loads for the carry to Camp I, pondered inviting over the Swedish expedition for coffees; they are extremely difficult to track down as they are planning on doing both Shishapangma and Cho Oyu this season, and finally just settled in with a book. Late in the afternoon, Juanito and his team mate stopped by for a visit. We discussed our plans for the coming days, then digressed to routes on other mountains that we had all been on and future mountaineering plans. After they left, Mario got to work on his Risotto Milanese, which took a substantial amount if time to prepare. It was well worth the wait though in the end. We opened up the four-liter boxed wine that Parajuli had packed for us and were shocked that it actually wasn’t half bad. We chatted for a few hours, then went to bed in our very windy base camp.
