2009 Shishapangma Expedition |
Day Seven: Free Day in Nyalam Today, we intended to sleep in, but were awakened quite early by the Tibetans. We headed to breakfast where we met a group of two heading for Cho Oyu. One was a guide from New Zealand, Marty Schmidt, the other was a client from New York. We spoke for quite some time about past expeditions then headed our separate ways. Paola, Mario and I walked over to the monastery, where we were followed by a dog who needed protection from a pack of angry looking dogs who were fighting in the street. The dog stayed with us for the majority of the afternoon. We had lunch again at the Snow Land Restaurant, the monotony of which we could hardly stomach, then spoke with our Liaison Officer about tomorrow. We plan on leaving Nyalam at 7:30am and should arrive to Chinese Base Camp around noon. The rest of the afternoon we spent reading and trying our hardest to kill the time. We certainly look forward to getting to base camp as soon as possible. We had dinner at the “Base Camp Restaurant” and wished that we had eaten here more often, as the portions were much better and the choices and service far surpassed that of the Snow Land Restaurant. I headed into the Snow Land Restaurant to bid Marty Schmidt goodbye, as he and his client will be heading to Tingri tomorrow. |
